Road Race

The infamous Red Stripe running vertical down the rear of a 3RT Jersey is feared amongst the Road Racing scene. 3RT bring pain to the legs of other competitors at all levels. Split into the British Cycling Categories of ‘4’, ‘3’, ‘2’, ‘1’ & Elite our riders accumulate points from placing and victories to be able to move up to the next level of racing.

Road Races are bunch events that take place on the open road over a pre-determined lap or laps. Riders sign on at a HQ before the race begins in a ‘neutralised’ form – allowing the peloton to group-up before racing commences. Races can either be stand-alone events of part of a league or series.

3RT compete in events such as the Yorkshire Road Race league, Ilkley 2-Day Stage Race, Surf & Turf Stage Race and a lot of local events like the Batley Road Race. Road racing is mainly a spring and summer sport, although a number of regions run autumn and winter leagues. There are categories for riders from under 12 to adult for men and women, ensuring that there’s a category to suit everyone.

Criterium Racing

3RT venture across many disciplines of cycling and Criterium racing is another form we are continuously successful in. Criterium’s are similar to a road race but they take place on traffic-free facilities like closed circuits on tracks, city centre courses, air fields etc.

The Elite Circuit series and supporting races is a favourite amongst 3RT men. Competing at the highest level of City Centre Racing, against professionals and supported by thousands of screaming fans! Huddersfield, Ilkley, Brighouse, Otley, Doncaster, Sheffield, they are truly amazing events that we endeavour to take part in every year.

This sort of racing is categorised in the same format as Road & Track racing, but whilst riding a criterium we are riding at constant speeds of around 30mph, using our finest and practised skills to manoeuvre corners, speed bumps, cobbles and other riders to ensure we cross the line with the Red & Black flag flying high!

Time Trials

Time Trialling is a specific discipline in which 3RT soar where others can suffer. A very mental and soul destroying discipline which requires your body to suffer for long lengths of time. Competing over distances of 10, 25, 50 & 100miles. Time Trials really are the most painful way to race; that’s why 3RT love it!

A race against the clock you have to ride as fast as you can and complete the set distance in the quickest time physically possible.

Track

Riding the mighty wooden boards astride a bike with no change of gears, no brakes and fixed wheel – meaning you can’t stop pedalling... doesn’t sound much fun... 3RT smash the competition to thrive during the dangerous and demanding Track Season!

Although our club only competes during the winter months (to avoid the wet windy weather of Britain) riders can compete all year round. Hitting speeds in access of 50mph competing in same race formats our Olympic athletes compete in. We really do push ourselves to the limit; even if it is just to keep some fitness and bike handling skills over the winter months.

Cyclo Cross

3RT get down and dirty when competing in this tough sport that is cyclocross! Heavily involved in both the Yorkshire Summer cross series and Yorkshire Winter cross series www.yorkshirecyclocross.com  which 3RT are proud to host the second in the winter series (in many's view the most challenging and  best!) at our circuit in Tong, near in Bradford.

We also have riders enduring the toughest cyclocross race (maybe in the world) which is the Yorkshire Three Peaks held at the end of every September, 37 miles and 5500 feet of climbing up Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen Y Gent.

MTB

3RT are extremely pro-active on the National MTB scene. With our riders competing in the ever popular and gruelling Nutcracker cross country series, British MTB Marathon Championships, Isle of Man End 2 End challenge and also enduring the toughest 24 hour MTB races. 3RT green jersey riders are also seen competing in all the local endurance challenges and circuits around Calderdale and Kirklees.
